Milson's Point

My aim in taking this photograph, using a Canon 70D, was to capture the hundreds of years of history within this tree. I pointed the camera vertically from the base of the tree and adjusted my F-Stops to let the light glow through the leaves, adding a tone of mystery to the shot. One's eye travels up the tree trunk and following along the branches making the viewer feel minuscule in comparison to the great Moreton Bay Fig...

The purpose of this photo was to take us back in time to the dank, bleak Rocks, as portrayed in Ruth Park's, 'Playing Beatie Bow'. For this particular photograph, I allowed little light in, highlighting the damp staircase that has stayed the same for well over a century. It was key to make the staircase the centre of the photo, allowing one's eye to climb it, with the viewer wondering what may lie beyond.
